Justin Satterfield, 25, and Brady Lee Purvis, 24, were staying in a Super 8 motel in Jacksonville, Florida with their 7-month-old son. Around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, Justin and Brady were fighting over possession of an AK-47. The gun went off and stuck the baby in the arm and the chest The boy was transported to the hospital where he is listed in serious but stable condition.
The parents were arrested and charged with child abuse. Justin was also charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
A Department of Children and Families spokesman said the child will be given to protective services after he is released from the hospital.
